The biochip laboratory will combine the fields of biology, AI and engineering to create sensors for medical diagnosis, environmental purification and waste-to-energy conversion.
The biochips developed by the laboratory will be used in accelerating drug development, real-time monitoring of internal health conditions, rapid diagnosis of infectious diseases in small samples, sewage purification, etc.
The laboratory is a joint venture between Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and the Israeli company Bacaromus. The Israeli government will also provide nearly US$20 million in investment support for the project.
Gila Gamliel, Israel’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, said: The establishment of the new laboratory marks the integration of biology, engineering and AI, opening a new chapter for transformative solutions that change the world.
