The 'US defense treaty' was rejected

The United States plans to sign 'US defense treaty' with Saudi Arabia, which stipulates that if Saudi Arabia is attacked by a third party, it will be regarded as a joint attack on both sides, and the United States will directly provide protection for Saudi Arabia.

This proposal was rejected by Saudi Arabia, which surprised the United States.

The additional condition of this treaty is that Saudi Arabia must normalize relations with Israel, that is, abandon the consensus of Arab countries and no longer recognize Palestine as a country.

This demand directly touches the bottom line of Saudi Arabia. In any case, Saudi Arabia has always been the leader of Sunni Muslims in the Gulf region, and making peace with Israel alone will make it lose its leading position and influence in the Gulf countries. Egypt in history was thus isolated and expelled from the Arab League.

Saudi Arabia has just reconciled with Iran, and there is no external worry. Moreover, the dominance of the 'US defense treaty' is in the hands of the United States. Saudi Arabia is worried that once the United States gives up Saudi Arabia for its own interests after signing it, Saudi Arabia will be isolated and helpless.

Starting from the long-term interests, Saudi Arabia decisively rejected the US proposal.

Although this decision of Saudi Arabia has added variables to the US Middle East plan, it also shows firm stance of Saudi Arabia in the face of national interests.

Saudi Arabia is well aware that only by maintaining its independence and autonomy in international relations can it better safeguard the long-term interests of the country.

This incident once again highlights the complexity and sensitivity of the Middle East. The forces of all parties compete here and their interests are intertwined, which makes the security situation in the Middle East always difficult to stabilize.

In the future, how Saudi Arabia maintains its independence and autonomy in the complex international situation will be a problem worthy of attention.
