Vietnam News Agency quoted data from the Population Bureau of the Ministry of Health of Vietnam on the 30th as saying that Vietnam’s total fertility rate (that is, the average number of children per woman) in 2024 was 1.91, a record low, and is expected to continue to decline in the next few years.
Statistics from the Population Bureau of the Ministry of Health of Vietnam show that Vietnam’s total fertility rate has been lower than the 2.1 required to ensure national population stability for three consecutive years. It was 2.01 in 2022, 1.96 in 2023, and dropped to 1.91 in 2024. If the total fertility rate continues to decline according to this trend, Vietnam's population will begin to grow negatively after 2054 and the decline will continue to increase.
Statistics show that Vietnam's total population in 2023 will be 104 million, and the population aged 60 and above will be approximately 16 million, accounting for approximately 16% of the total population. According to the Vietnam News Agency, since 2011, more than 10% of Vietnam’s population aged 60 and over has entered an aging society.
