According to a Reuters report on January 16th, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a landmark 100-year partnership agreement on the 16th, aiming to deepen security relations and strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
According to reports, Zelensky told the media after signing the agreement: "Today is a truly historic day, and our relations are closer than ever."
Starmer's office said the agreements covered areas such as energy, critical minerals and green steel production. During his visit to Kiev that day, Starmer said that he would give Ukraine the support it needs to put it in the best position to fight Russia in 2025. "We must not let up," he said before the meeting with Zelensky.
This "100-year partnership" agreement is divided into three phases. The first phase stipulates that in the next thirty years, the UK will provide at least 3 billion pounds (approximately US$3.6 billion) in military assistance to Ukraine every year, including the transfer of artillery and modern air defense systems to Ukraine. Both parties will ensure partnership in the fields of national defense, maritime security, economy and trade, science and technology, culture, education and other fields.
The agreement also stipulates that the UK will continue to provide military support to Ukraine as long as necessary. Valid for 100 years from the Effective Date unless terminated by either party.
In addition, Starmer pledged on behalf of the UK to continue to support Ukraine’s membership of NATO.
