Dujarric said at a regular press conference on the 28th that the United States has informed the Secretary-General of the United Nations, as the depositary, that the United States will withdraw from the Paris Agreement on January 27th this year. According to Article 28, paragraph 2, of the Paris Agreement, the United States’ withdrawal from the Agreement will take effect on January 27th, 2026.

Dujarric said that the United Nations reaffirms its commitment to the Paris Agreement and supports all efforts aimed at limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

U.S. President Trump signed an executive order on the day he took office on the 20th, announcing that the United States would withdraw from the Paris Agreement again.

In 2015, the United Nations Climate Change Conference reached the Paris Agreement, which became an important achievement in the global response to climate change. In June 2017, then-US President Trump announced that the United States would withdraw from the Paris Agreement. On November 4th, 2020, the United States officially withdrew from the agreement. This move has been widely criticized in the United States and the international community. On January 20th, 2021, Biden signed an executive order on his first day as President of the United States, announcing that the United States would rejoin the Paris Agreement. On February 19th of the same year, the United States officially rejoined the Paris Agreement.
