According to Reuters, the U.S. government under Trump announced on the evening of January 31st that four media outlets, including the New York Times, were required to evacuate from their dedicated offices in the Pentagon. The rationale for this unprecedented move was to make room for other media.
According to the report, the "New Annual Media Rotation Plan" memo stated that National Public Radio, NBC News and Politico will also be required to withdraw, and they must vacate their positions before February 14th.
Their space will be allocated to The New York Post, One America News Network (OANN), Breitbart News and Huffpost.
The memorandum stated that every year in the future, the Pentagon will select one media from each of the four major media types: print media, online media, television and radio for rotation, so that everyone will have a unique opportunity to report from the Pentagon station.
The report also stated that an NBC News spokesperson responded in an email: "We are disappointed with this decision and have worked in Pentagon offices for decades."
