According to CNN, Cuban President Diaz Canel and Cuban Foreign Minister Rodriguez responded later on the same day to the executive order signed by newly elected US President Trump on the 20th, canceling Biden's decision to remove Cuba from the list of "state sponsors of terrorism" during his presidency.

Diaz Canel said on X that "Trump ignores facts" and has just fraudulently added Cuba to the list of "state sponsors of terrorism". "This is not surprising. His goal is to continue to strengthen the brutal economic war against Cuba in order to achieve control."

“The result of Trump’s extreme economic blockade is a shortage of supplies for our people and a significant increase in the flow of immigrants from Cuba to the United States,” Diaz Canel continued.

CNN reported that Rodriguez also posted on X condemning the decision as "unreasonable", stating that "it will cause harm, but it will not shake the firm determination of our people. We will win."

In 2015, the Obama administration removed Cuba from the US list of state sponsors of terrorism. Rapprochement between the two countries was suspended after Trump came to power in January 2017. He tightened restrictions on travel to the republic and banned business with companies controlled by the Cuban military. Among other measures, he put Cuba on the US list of state sponsors of terrorism.

On January 15th, then-White House Press Secretary Jean-Pierre issued a statement saying that President Biden had notified the U.S. Congress of his decision to remove Cuba from the list of "state sponsors of terrorism" designated by the United States. The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement that day, saying that the Biden administration's move was a "limited" decision but "in the right direction."
